Boundary conditions and linear analysis of finite-cell RayleighBnard convection

چکیده
The linear stability of finite-cell pure-fluid Rayleigh-Be'nard convection subject to any homogeneous viscous and/or thermal boundary conditions is investigated via a variational formalism and a perturbative approach. Some general properties of the critical Rayleigh number with respect to change of boundary conditions or system size are derived. It is shown that the chemical reaction4iffusion model of spatialpattern-forming systems in developmental biology can be thought of as a special case of the convection problem. We also prove that, as a result of the imposed realistic boundary conditions, the nodal surfaces of the temperature of a nonlinear stationary state have a tendency to be parallel or orthogonal to the sidewalls, because the full fluid equations become linear close to the boundary, thus suggesting similar trend for the experimentally observed convective rolls.

Convection in a Tilted Square Enclosure with Various Boundary Conditions and Having Heat Generating Solid Body at its Center
In this study free convection flow and heat transfer of a fluid inside a tilted square enclosure having heat conducting and generating solid body positioned in the center of the enclosure with various thermal boundary conditions has been investigated numerically. The governing equations are transformed into non-dimensional form and the resulting partial differential equations are solved by Fini...
متن کاملModified Fixed Grid Finite Element Method in the Analysis of 2D Linear Elastic Problems
In this paper, a modification on the fixed grid finite element method is presented and used in the solution of 2D linear elastic problems. This method uses non-boundary-fitted meshes for the numerical solution of partial differential equations. Special techniques are required to apply boundary conditions on the intersection of domain boundaries and non-boundary-fitted elements. Hence, a new met...

متن کاملNumerical Study of Natural Convection Heat Transfer in a Horizontal Wavy Absorber Solar Collector Based on the Second Law Analysis
Literature about entropy generation analysis of a wavy enclosure is scare. In this paper. a FORTRAN cod using an explicit finite-volume method was provided for estimating the entropy production due to the natural convection heat transfer in a cosine wavy absorber solar collector. The volumetric entropy generation terms both the heat transfer term and the friction term were straightly calculated...
متن کاملNon-Darcian Mixed Convection Flow in Vertical Composite Channels with Hybrid Boundary Conditions
In this article, the effects of viscous dissipation and inertial force on the velocity and temperature distributions of the mixed convection laminar flow in a vertical channel partly filled with a saturated porous medium have been studied. In this regard, the Brinkman–Forchheimer extended Darcy model was adopted for the fluid flow in the porous region. In addition, three different viscous dissi...
